God instructs us through His word in
Isaiah 58:6-9 that the fast or sacrifice which He delights in, is “To loose the
bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free -
share bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are
cast out.”
With the recent change of government
administration in 2002, Kenyans have been living in the
bondage of wickedness by the name "ethnic cleansing” since 1982. This
heinous activity was perpetrated by politically correct personalities within the
former ruling regime. The aim was to punish en mass those tribes which
refused to support the government that had allowed corruption to rip off the
nation’s dignity. The perpetrators executed their plan by killing, maiming
and burning homes of innocent members of the tribes which appear to be a threat
to those in power. As a result, many have died quietly and others
including small children have been left without parents and without a place they
could call home.
Kenya is also facing a crippling
epidemic of AIDS. Los Angeles Times of Sunday, March 5 2000 carried an
article (almost an entire page) on how Kenyan families are being wiped out by
AIDS. Ann M Simons, Times Staff Writer writes:
“The ministry of Health in this
country of nearly 32 million people says 13% to 14% of adults, about 1.9
million people, have the human immunodeficiency virus, which causes AIDS in a
country with about as many people as California, an estimated 500 die each day
of the disease -more than 20 an hour. Up to 80% of the victims are
between the ages of 15 and 49 leaving about 500,000 AIDS orphans.”
